All products imported to the EU must comply with the existing laws and regulations. In Sweden we have a product safety law, but the regulatory framework most commonly applicable to products used by children is the Safety Directive for toys 2009/48/EC. All products classified as toys in the Safety Directive shall be tested and technical documentation will be established.
The first step for us when we get an inquiry for a product is to decide if it is classified as a toy. If it is, the next question will be if the toy will be used by children under the age of 3. We then adapt the process so that the product is tested in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations for the EU but we also find out if there are national laws in the country where our customer operates.
